General (R) Ehsan-ul-Haq, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of the Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Chairman of the think tank “101 Friends of China,” has underscored the strategic importance of the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.

As the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) marks its 10th anniversary, the year 2023 witnesses the deepening of bilateral relations between the two nations. In a meeting with Mr. Faisal Zahid Malik, Chairman and CEO of Pakistan Observer and Vice Chairman of the 101 Friends of China, General Ehsan-ul-Haq highlighted the growing significance of this partnership within the evolving geopolitical landscape.

The Vision of 101 Friends of China

General Ehsan-ul-Haq serves as the Chairman of the think tank “101 Friends of China,” an initiative initiated by Zahid Malik, the late founder and Editor-in-Chief of Pakistan Observer. This think tank was established to promote bilateral relations and counter propaganda. General Ehsan paid tribute to Zahid Malik, acknowledging him as a visionary leader who recognized the necessity of creating a platform that would bring together thinkers, statesmen, and former envoys of both China and Pakistan to foster stronger relations.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and CPEC

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has emerged as a prominent international cooperation platform, attracting substantial investments and generating job opportunities. CPEC, a flagship project of the BRI, has witnessed significant progress over the past decade, serving as a testament to the unwavering collaboration between Pakistan and China. General Ehsan-ul-Haq expressed his confidence that CPEC would continue to grow, further enhancing all-encompassing cooperation between the two nations.

The Importance of Strong Pakistan-China Relations

In the ever-evolving geopolitical context, General Ehsan emphasized the increasing importance of strong Pakistan-China relations. These ties serve as a cornerstone for regional stability and development. As global dynamics continue to shift, Pakistan and China’s strategic partnership gains greater relevance, enabling both nations to address shared challenges and seize new opportunities.

Advocating for Humanitarian Causes

General Ehsan-ul-Haq also addressed the pressing humanitarian issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He vehemently condemned the recent attacks on innocent Palestinians by Israeli forces and called for unity within the Muslim Ummah against Israel’s actions. The General urged the international community to take notice of the relentless aggression by Israeli forces and, in particular, the recent attack on Al-Ahly Al-Mamadany Hospital in Gaza, which resulted in significant civilian casualties. He emphasized that targeting hospitals and medical personnel is an indefensible act of inhumanity, violating international humanitarian law.

Accountability and Preventing Future Attacks

General Ehsan-ul-Haq called for Israel to be held accountable for “war crimes” and urged the United Nations, the European Union, and other global forums to use their influence to prevent such attacks by Israeli forces in the future. The international community must stand together to protect the sanctity of humanitarian spaces and uphold the principles of justice and humanity.

Conclusion

As Pakistan and China celebrate a decade of strengthened bilateral relations through the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, General Ehsan-ul-Haq’s insights shed light on the enduring partnership and its role in shaping the future. Furthermore, his advocacy for human rights and humanitarian causes serves as a reminder of the moral imperatives that guide responsible global citizenship. The partnership between Pakistan and China, as highlighted in this meeting, represents not only a strategic alliance but also a shared commitment to building a more equitable and just world.
