Tokyo, Japan – In a touching display of companionship, 72-year-old Hisao Mitani and his beloved tortoise Bon-chan have become local celebrities in Tokyo’s Tsukishima neighborhood.
Bon-chan, an African spurred tortoise now weighing around 100 kilograms, has been part of Mitani’s life for 28 years. Once small enough to fit in his palm, Bon-chan was bought on a whim by Mitani’s wife—and has since become a cherished member of the community.
