Peshawar Zalmi produced a ruthless bowling performance to dismantle Multan Sultans and clinch a dominant seven-wicket victory in Match 25 of the HBL Pakistan Super League Season 10 (PSL X), reigniting their hopes of securing a playoff berth. The match, held under floodlights at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday night, saw Zalmi bowl out the Sultans for just 108 — one of their lowest totals of the season — and chase it down with 42 balls to spare.
Zalmi Bowlers Wreak Havoc as Sultans Collapse
Player of the Match Ahmed Daniyal was the architect of Multan’s downfall, delivering a fiery spell of 3 for 12 in his four overs. The pace duo of Luke Wood (2-18) and Ali Raza (1-10), alongside left-arm spinner Maaz Sadaqat (2-12), supported Daniyal brilliantly as Multan crumbled under pressure.
Multan Sultans, after opting to bat first, got off to a shaky start. Yasir Khan (10) was dismissed early by Saim Ayub, and skipper Mohammad Rizwan (17) fell to Luke Wood — both inside the first six overs. With the top order in tatters, a brief partnership between Tayyab Tahir (22 off 18) and Shai Hope (23 off 21) gave the Sultans a glimmer of hope. But once Ahmed Daniyal removed Tayyab in the 9th over, the floodgates opened.
Maaz Sadaqat’s double blow in the middle overs — dismissing Ashton Turner for a duck and castling Muhammad Amir Barki — broke Multan’s spine. With the score at 66-6 in the 12th over, a quick tail-end collapse ensued, and the innings ended at 108 in 19.1 overs.
Saim Ayub Stars in Run Chase Despite Early Jolts
Chasing a modest target of 109, Peshawar Zalmi also had early hiccups. Opener Mitchell Owen was removed in the very first over, and captain Babar Azam (8) fell cheaply in the seventh over to Shahid Aziz, who bowled an impressive spell (2-17).
However, Saim Ayub found his rhythm just when Zalmi needed him most. The left-hander smashed 49 off 33 balls with four boundaries and three sixes, playing a crucial knock that set the tone for a swift chase.
After Saim’s dismissal, Max Bryant took control of the innings. The Australian batter remained unbeaten on 38 off just 24 balls, hitting five fours and a six to seal the game with a flurry of boundaries. Zalmi reached the target in just 13 overs, finishing on 110/3.
Playoff Hopes Still Alive for Zalmi
This comprehensive victory takes Peshawar Zalmi to fifth position on the PSL 10 points table with 8 points. With two matches remaining in the league stage, Babar Azam’s men must win both to secure a playoff spot in what promises to be a tightly contested race.
Multan Sultans, on the other hand, have now suffered their third loss of the season and need to reassess their batting approach going into the final stretch.
