On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, anti-war activists gathered outside the Genbaku Dome to protest what they call government repression and rising nuclear rhetoric. Demonstrators warned that Japan’s shift in defense policies could erode its post-war pacifism and lead to future conflict. With growing concerns over both Japan’s and the U.S.’s nuclear stance, the protest echoed deep fears of history repeating itself.
