Record Snowfall Paralyzes Japan : Aomori Buried Under 4.5m of Snow

Japan’s Aomori prefecture has been brought to a standstill after record-breaking snowfall reached 4.5 metres — the deepest since 1986. Roads are blocked, public transport has halted, and residents are battling nonstop snow as avalanche warnings are issued. At least 30 people have died nationwide amid the extreme winter conditions. Authorities have activated emergency disaster-response measures as the severe weather continues across northern Japan.
