Former Pakistani fast bowler Azhar Mahmood has been selected as the head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The matches are scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18th to April 27th.

Azhar Mahmood’s Background:

Azhar Mahmood, a veteran of 164 internationals for Pakistan, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. During his playing career, Mahmood took 162 wickets and scored 2,421 runs for his country. Previously, Mahmood served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan men’s cricket team from 2016 to 2019.

Supporting Staff Announcement:

Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the senior team manager, while Mohammad Yousuf will serve as the batting coach. Saeed Ajmal, who previously held the role of bowling coach, will continue as the spin bowling coach. The rest of the supporting staff includes Aftab Khan as the field coach, Cliffe Deacon as the physiotherapist, Drikus Saiman as the strength and conditioning coach, and others.

Iftar Dinner Hosted by COAS:

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir hosted an Iftar dinner for the Pakistan cricket team at the Army House in Rawalpindi. The event was attended by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and other officials. The players expressed gratitude for the physical training they received at the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT) camp in Kakul, Abbottabad.

Squad Announcement:

The national selection committee is expected to announce the squad for the series against New Zealand in a press conference. Notable players expected to be included in the squad are Babar Azam, Usman Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and others.

Coaching staff:

With the appointment of Azhar Mahmood and the support of a dedicated coaching staff, Pakistan aims to put up a strong performance in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. The team looks forward to showcasing their talent and making their nation proud on the cricket field.
