Islamabad United continued their dream run in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) X, extending their winning streak to ten consecutive matches—a new all-time record in PSL history. The defending champions powered past Multan Sultans by seven wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night in Match 13 of the tournament.
Led by Shadab Khan, Islamabad United chased down a 169-run target with 17 balls to spare, thanks to a sensational unbeaten knock by South African batter Andries Gous, who smashed 80 not out off just 45 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and five sixes. His commanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Islamabad United’s Record-Breaking Streak
This win marked United’s fifth straight victory in HBL PSL X and 10th consecutive win overall, dating back to PSL 2024. With this feat, they surpassed Multan Sultans’ previous record of eight wins on the trot—the second-best winning streak in PSL history.
United now sit comfortably atop the HBL PSL 10 points table and are emerging as strong title contenders once again.
Match Summary: Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans
Multan Sultans, after opting to bat first, posted a competitive 168-5 in their 20 overs. The opening duo of Mohammad Rizwan (36 off 37) and Yasir Khan (29 off 17) gave them a solid start with a 51-run partnership.
Middle-order batter Usman Khan starred for the Sultans with a powerful 61 off 40 balls, including four boundaries and four maximums. He built a 65-run stand with Rizwan before Shadab Khan struck in the 14th over. Despite late cameos from Kamran Ghulam (10* off 6), United bowlers restricted the Sultans to just 42 runs in the last five overs, tightening the screws effectively.
For Islamabad, Mohammad Nawaz (1-13), Shadab Khan, Riley Meredith, and Jason Holder each picked up a wicket, keeping the pressure on throughout the innings.
Gous, Munro and Nawaz Power the Chase
Chasing 169, Islamabad United lost opener Sahibzada Farhan (22) early after a 29-run opening stand. But Andries Gous found an able partner in the aggressive Colin Munro, who smashed a quickfire 45 off 28 balls with five fours and two sixes. The pair stitched a 81-run second-wicket partnership, taking the game away from the Sultans.
After Munro fell to Michael Bracewell in the 11th over, Mohammad Nawaz (21 off 19) joined Gous to form a composed 55-run partnership that sealed the match in style.
For Multan, Bracewell, Chris Jordan, and Ubaid Shah claimed one wicket each, but their efforts weren’t enough to stop a red-hot United.
