Islamabad, Pakistan – June 2026: The United Kingdom has reinforced its strategic partnership with Pakistan during a two-day ministerial visit by UK Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, highlighting Pakistan’s pivotal role in helping broker the landmark US-Iran peace agreement and announcing additional funding to combat illegal migration and organized crime.
The visit underscores the growing importance of UK-Pakistan cooperation in addressing regional security challenges, strengthening border controls, and promoting long-term stability across the Middle East and South Asia.
UK Welcomes Pakistan’s Role in US-Iran Peace Negotiations
During the first day of his visit to Islamabad on June 15, Minister Falconer met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, to personally express the UK’s appreciation for Pakistan’s contribution to facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The UK government described the newly announced US-Iran peace deal as a significant diplomatic achievement that could help reduce tensions in the Middle East and create opportunities for lasting regional peace.
Falconer emphasized that Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement played a critical role in advancing discussions and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to working closely with international partners to support the implementation of the agreement.
“The news of a US-Iran deal is a hugely significant moment,” Falconer stated. “Pakistan has played a critical role in brokering this opportunity for regional stability, and we stand ready to work together to support a path to lasting peace.”

£8 Million Funding Package to Tackle Illegal Migration
A major outcome of the ministerial visit was the announcement of an additional £8 million investment aimed at strengthening joint UK-Pakistan efforts to combat illegal migration, human trafficking, and serious organized crime.
The funding package will support:
- Enhanced border security and visa verification systems.
- Improved identity management and information-sharing mechanisms.
- Specialized training and operational support for Pakistani law enforcement agencies.
- Disruption of people-smuggling and human trafficking networks.
- Community-based prevention initiatives in areas vulnerable to illegal migration.
- Return processes for individuals with no legal right to remain in the United Kingdom.
The initiative seeks to address both the immediate and underlying causes of illegal migration by combining law enforcement measures with local development and awareness programs.
Joint Action Against Visa Fraud and People Smuggling
As part of his visit, Falconer will observe a live demonstration showcasing collaborative efforts between UK and Pakistani authorities to prevent visa abuse and illegal migration.
The program enables Pakistani officials to identify and intercept non-genuine visa holders at airports before departure, helping ensure that only legitimate students and travelers enter the United Kingdom.
Meetings with Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior and the Higher Education Commission will further explore measures to strengthen oversight, reduce visa fraud, and improve compliance with immigration regulations.
Strengthening UK-Pakistan Security Cooperation
The visit also highlights broader UK-Pakistan cooperation on national and international security issues. Both countries continue to work together to counter terrorism, combat transnational crime, and strengthen law enforcement capabilities.
Falconer noted that the UK-Pakistan partnership remains essential for protecting regional and global security interests.
“The UK-Pakistan partnership is critical for safeguarding global, regional and UK national security—working closely together to tackle terrorist threats, visa fraud, and serious organized crime,” he said.
The United Kingdom continues to provide counter-terrorism assistance to Pakistan, including training programs designed to improve the investigation and prosecution of terrorism-related cases.
Discussions on Afghanistan and Regional Stability
During his visit, Falconer also met with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan to discuss ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The discussions focused on encouraging dialogue between neighboring countries, addressing cross-border security concerns, and exploring opportunities for cooperation against terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan.
The UK reiterated its willingness to support regional efforts aimed at improving security and fostering diplomatic engagement in the region.
UK Reaffirms Commitment to Secure Borders and Global Partnerships
The ministerial visit reflects the UK’s broader strategy of strengthening international partnerships to address shared security challenges. By expanding cooperation with Pakistan on migration management, counter-terrorism, and diplomatic initiatives, the UK aims to enhance border security while contributing to regional peace and stability.
The UK government also emphasized its commitment to working with Pakistan and other international partners to support the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and maintain stability across the Middle East.
As geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve, the growing UK-Pakistan partnership is expected to play an increasingly important role in addressing migration, security, and diplomatic challenges affecting both countries and the wider international community.
