In a quest to unravel the intricacies of feline reproduction and enhance pedigree feline breeding practices, researchers from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) embarked on a groundbreaking 13-year study. This exhaustive investigation, conducted from 2010 to 2023 across veterinary clinics in Lugansk and Omsk, delved deep into the enigmatic world of cat mating behaviors.

Methodology:

The study meticulously observed and documented the mating rituals of 102 cats representing diverse breeds, including Siamese, Siberian, and Russian Blues. Employing a sophisticated setup comprising four video cameras, researchers meticulously scrutinized various facets of the mating process. Key parameters assessed included pre-mating testosterone levels in male cats, duration of intercourse, ejaculation patterns, and the frequency of mounting attempts and mating motions.

Findings:

The culmination of this extensive research yielded profound insights into feline sexual temperament, categorizing male cats into four distinct types: uninhibited, lively, calm, and weak. These classifications are poised to revolutionize breeding practices by enabling breeders to make more informed decisions based on the temperament of individual cats.

Significance:

Beyond its implications for pedigree feline breeding, the study holds broader significance for the field of animal behavior research. By shedding light on the intricate dynamics of cat mating behavior, researchers aim to pave the way for advancements in reproductive science and animal welfare.

Future Implications:

The application of these findings extends beyond the realm of academia, with researchers seeking to obtain a patent for their innovative method of discerning cats’ sexual types. This patent holds promise for enhancing breeding practices and optimizing genetic diversity within feline populations.

Consumer Insights:

As breeders grapple with the implications of this research, consumer preferences offer valuable insights into the most sought-after pure cat breeds in Russia. According to data from the Russian online classified ads platform Avito, the Scottish Fold emerges as the top choice, capturing 37% of users’ inquiries. Following closely are the British Shorthair at 22% and the majestic Maine Coons at 8%, reflecting the enduring allure of these beloved feline companions.

Conclusion:

Through meticulous observation and rigorous analysis, researchers have unveiled a wealth of knowledge regarding cat sexual behavior, offering a glimpse into the intricate world of feline reproduction. As the study continues to garner attention within the scientific community and beyond, its findings are poised to shape the future of feline breeding practices and contribute to our understanding of animal behavior.
