As food shortages worsen and famine looms in Gaza, a local charity kitchen in Beit Lahiya has become a lifeline for thousands. Run by a team of 15 volunteers, including women and men, the kitchen provides essential meals such as Palestinian musakhan, maftoul, and soup during Ramadan.
Kitchen supervisor Faten Al-Madhoun highlighted the challenges, including rising food prices and water shortages, worsened by the ongoing blockade.
“The demand is overwhelming. People are on the brink of starvation,” she said. For many, the kitchen is their only source of food. Asmaa Al-Madhoun, a worker who lost her husband in the war, now relies on the kitchen to support her four children. Beneficiaries warn of an impending humanitarian catastrophe, urging for immediate aid and the reopening of border crossings to prevent a full-scale famine.
