The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in collaboration with Deloitte, has officially launched the 2025 edition of the IOC Climate Action Awards—an international initiative celebrating the integration of sustainability in sports. This prestigious programme invites National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Federations (IFs), and Olympic and Paralympic athletes to submit innovative climate action projects that are creating measurable environmental impact.

Climate Action Meets Sports Innovation

First introduced in November 2022, the IOC Climate Action Awards are now in their third cycle and continue to spotlight climate-conscious leaders across the global sports landscape. The initiative reflects the IOC’s growing commitment to combating climate change by encouraging eco-friendly practices in sports.

According to Marie Sallois, IOC Director of Corporate and Sustainable Development:

“The IOC Climate Action Awards return in 2025, not just to honour bold ideas, but to ignite a movement. These awards are a call to action for those redefining what’s possible in sport and sustainability.”

Who Can Apply for IOC Climate Action Awards 2025?

The 2025 IOC Climate Action Awards are open to:

  • National Olympic Committees (NOCs)

  • International Sports Federations (IFs)

  • Olympic and Paralympic athletes

Applicants are encouraged to submit projects that achieve tangible environmental improvements, such as:

  • Reduction in carbon emissions

  • Recycling and reuse of sports gear

  • Waste minimization and material conservation

  • Promotion of sustainable nutrition in sports

Submissions are being accepted until June 27, 2025.

Support, Mentorship & Innovation Labs

This year’s edition isn’t just about recognition—it’s about acceleration. Winners from the NOC and IF categories will receive an Innovation Lab experience, hosted by Deloitte’s Greenhouse team, aimed at fast-tracking their climate initiatives.

Athlete winners will be paired with regional Deloitte sustainability specialists for a six-month tailored mentorship program. This mentorship is designed to refine and scale their initiatives to have greater global impact.

Jen Steinmann, Deloitte’s Global Sustainability Business Leader, emphasized:

“We’re especially proud of the lab and mentorship components that allow us to work closely with federations and athletes to implement their transformative solutions.”

What’s New in 2025?

  • Finalists and winners will be announced during the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

  • The awards follow the success of the inaugural 2024 IOC Climate Awards, which celebrated 15 finalists during the Paris 2024 Olympics and awarded four outstanding initiatives in September 2024.

Why the IOC Climate Action Awards Matter

The IOC’s efforts represent a growing trend of embedding environmental responsibility in international sports. From carbon-neutral Olympic Games to green stadium design, sports are becoming a powerful platform for climate leadership.

The 2025 Climate Action Awards will not only reward success but also inspire replication of best practices across global sporting communities.

How to Apply

Interested individuals and organizations can apply via the official IOC Climate Action Awards portal.

  • Deadline: June 27, 2025
